This walk showcases excellent examples of large canopy trees, understory, ground plants, lichens, ferns, orchids and epiphytes. The Kaimai lookout over the Waikato plains is two hundred metres down the road.
The track starts at the northern end of the gravelled carpark opposite the fresh water spring. This is a short excursion and can be described as easy, however the track crosses a small stream which could be impassable after heavy rain and is therefore classified as a tramping track.
Leaving the summit car park, follow the North South Track for about 10 min until reaching a track junction. Take the loop walk which follows a short ridge before dropping back down to meet up with the road 50 m below the carpark.
