Jobs for Nature helps fund projects that are supporting nature

Introduction

The Jobs for Nature programme helps to revitalise communities through nature-based employment and to stimulate the economy post COVID-19.

DOC is funding project partners to create nature-based jobs on private land and public conservation land in predator and weed control, restoring wetlands, regenerative planting and improving tracks, huts and other recreational assets.

This is DOC’s contribution to the programme’s progress* so far:

  • 6,504 people employed in the programme since it began
  • a total of 7.36 million hours worked across the funded projects
  • 1.97 million hectares of animal pest control carried out
  • 156,359 hectares of plant pest control accomplished
  • 2,513 hectares of ecosystem restoration
  • 2.59 million plants planted.
