Introduction

1080 is proven to be a safe and effective tool for controlling introduced predators. Find out how we're using it to save our native wildlife and forests.

Native plants and animals in New Zealand are under threat from predators such as rats, stoats and possums. New Zealanders care about nature and it’s our job to protect it.

If we do nothing, our forests will become silent and bare.

The best tool we have to control these introduced predators over large areas is a biodegradable toxin known as 1080. It is proven to help protect populations of native animals and plants, many of which are at risk of extinction.

Find out more about why and how we use 1080, as well as the operational practices and regulations in place to ensure it's used safely.
