Proposed renaming of part of Raglan Recreation Reserve

Pursuant to the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 2008, notice is hereby given that the Department of Conservation proposes to rename part of a recreation reserve located in Raglan.

This notice advises of the following recreation reserve name and seeks submissions from any person or organisation wishing to support or object to the proposed name (noting that this notice relates to the proposed name only and not to the establishment of the recreation reserve itself).

Proposed name

The recreation reserve (approximately 12.819 ha) is located on the south western side of Raglan Harbour near Puktoetoe Point. 

The reserve is currently known as Raglan Recreation Reserve. Part of Raglan Recreation Reserve (shown on Map 2 in link below) will have its name changed to Papahua Recreation Reserve. The change of name is to bring it in line with name of the Māori Block which is Papahua No 2 Block.

How to submit

Submissions must provide reasons for supporting or objecting to the proposed name and if an objection is made, then an alternative name proposal may be suggested. Submissions are due by Thursday 25 October 2018 and should be sent to:

After considering any submissions received on the proposed name, and before finally deciding on the name, the Minister of Conservation will refer them to the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) (“the Board”), in accordance with section 16 Reserves Act 1977, in order to be reviewed by the Board under section 27(3) of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008.
