Summary
The Abel Tasman National Park Management Plan (NPMP) implements the Nelson/Marlborough Conservation Management Strategy and provides for the management of Abel Tasman National Park in accordance with the National Parks Act 1980 and the General Policy for National Parks 2005.
The purpose of the NPMP is to preserve Abel Tasman National Park in perpetuity for its intrinsic worth and for the benefit, use and enjoyment of the public. It seeks to give guidance and clear directions for management of the park by the Department of Conservation. It focuses on 'outcomes at place' with detailed descriptions and management outcomes for three specific 'Places' within the park: the Coast; the Interior; and the Islands.
This NPMP remains operative unless replaced in part or full through a formal review or amendment process.
