Summary

The Northland Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) describes the conservation values present in Northland. It provides guidance for DOC's work in the form of a vision, objectives, outcomes for places, policies, and milestones. These translate DOC's strategic outcomes to Northland.

This CMS remains operative unless formally reviewed in full, in part, or amended.

Volume I includes:

  • Part one: a vision, and objectives
  • Part two: outcomes, policies and milestones for places
  • Part three: other specific policies that address legislative and general policy requirements
  • Part four: implementation monitoring and reporting, and review
  • the glossary and appendices.

The vision and objectives in Part one, and the policies in Part three, cover all public conservation lands and waters in Northland.

Volume II contains maps and a public conservation land inventory.

The following statutory plan also applies to areas within Northland and needs to be read alongside the CMS when considering activities within their areas:

Development of Te Hiku CMS

A new CMS is being developed for Te Hiku Treaty Settlements area north of the Hokianga and Rangaunu Harbours. The CMS, known as the Te Hiku CMS, is being developed by Te Papa Atawhai and iwi representatives for Te Aupōuri, NgāiTakoto and Te Rarawa in line with Treaty Settlements.

Te Hiku CMS will set the management direction for the area it covers and replace that part of the Northland CMS.
