Marawaiwai Scenic Reserve

Located in the East Coast region

You can walk the easy Marawaiwai Track in the Marawaiwai Scenic Reserve where the forest and the small raupo wetland support many common bush birds.

The Marawaiwai Scenic Reserve is 7 km south-east of Ōpōtiki. Turn off SH2 onto Warrington Rd, then onto Harrison Rd.

Dogs, horses, vehicles (including bicycles and motorbikes), fires, removal of plants or animals, camping or hunting are not permitted.

Marawaiwai Scenic Reserve is an area of semi-coastal broadleaf forest of a type that would once have covered much of the Ōpōtiki area.

The forest and the small raupo wetland support many common bush birds and the occassional kereru. Some native plant species along the track have names posted.
