The Kapiti region encompasses the western part of Tararua Forest Park, Kapiti and Mana Islands, Waikanae Estuary, Pāuatahanui Inlet, rocky coast to Pukerua Bay.
SH1 traverses most of the area and there are numerous side roads that provide access into the backcountry and public conservation lands.
