General information

Permits are available online as 'Taumarunui Reserves' under the Central North Island hunting block.

Lowland forest with tawa and kamahi the dominant canopy trees. Some lower areas of manuka and tree fern. The terrain is moderate to steep.

Access

From State Highway 4, turn onto Oio Road south of Owhango. Continue along this road until reaching Upper Retaruke Road. Turn onto this road and continue until reaching the sign posted reserve.

Dogs

A separate permit is required to hunt with dogs. All dogs must be avian avoidance certified. Contact the local DOC office for details.
