A 44,476 hectare hunting area in Whānganui National Park.

Ruahine Forest Park - Central West

Red deer is the main species to hunt in the Ruahine Forest Park although some goats can be found in the southern end of the ranges.

Puketarata Scenic Reserve hunting

Fallow deer, pigs and goats are present in low numbers in Puketarata Scenic Reserve. Possums are present in moderate numbers and permits for commercial hunting are available for this area.

Rangi Scenic Reserve hunting

Pigs and goats are found in Rangi Scenic Reserve. The area is comprised of rolling to steep terrain.

Pukeatua Conservation Area and Scenic Reserve Area hunting

Pigs and goats are present within this reserve.

Paetawa Scenic Reserve hunting

Paetawa Scenic Reserve is situated on the true right of the Whanganui River and is accessible only by boat.

Patukino Scenic Reserve & Lakes Road Conservation Area hunting

Pigs and goats are found in Patukino Scenic Reserve and Lakes Road Conservation Area. Kiwi are known to present in both areas that feature podocarp/tawa forest.

Riariaki Conservation Area & Pairawahipi Scenic Reserve hunting

This hunting block including Riariaki Conservation Area and Pairawahipi Scenic Reserve is closed until further notice.

Whitiau Scientific Reserve hunting

Whitiau Scientific Reserve lies in the coastal strip north of the Whangaehu River. Hunting rabbits is permitted here.

Whanganui National Park South hunting

Hunting opportunities in Whanganui National Park (Atene to Ranana), Pitangi Scenic Reserve, and Ohutu and Koriniti conservation areas includes pigs, goats and low numbers of fallow deer.

Part Tarere Conservation Area hunting

Fallow deer, pigs and goats are all hunted in Tarere Conservation Area. Kiwi are known to be present in the mixed podocarp forest here.

Rimunui Conservation Area hunting

Rimunui Conservation Area is comprised of podocarp/tawa forest with some beech ridges. Fallow deer, pigs and goats are present.

Tapuarau Conservation Area & Lake Waiau Wildlife Management Reserve hunting

Tapuarau Conservation Area which used to be known as Hawken’s Lagoon features upland game, waterfowl and rabbit hunting opportunities.

Otawaki Scenic Reserve hunting

Situated on the true right bank of the Whanganui River, the only access to Otawaki Scenic Reserve is by boat. Pigs and goats are found here.

Kauarapaoa Scenic Reserve & Mystery Block Conservation Area hunting

The regenerating forest of the Kauarapaoa Scenic Reserve and Mystery Block Conservation Area are home to kiwi. The area is most popular for hunting pigs using dogs.

Kokaka & part Taheke Conservation Areas & Rotokahu & Retaruke Scenic Reserves hunting

The steep terrain of Kokaka and Taheke Conservation Areas along with Rotokahu and Retaruke Scenic Reserves are home to kiwi and blue ducks. Red deer, fallow deer, pigs and goats are all hunted here.

Kapara Conservation Area & Ahoroa and Moeawatea Scenic Reserves hunting

Kapara Conservation Area along with Ahoroa and Moeawatea Scenic Reserves lie within the Waitotara and Whenuakura River catchments. Goats and pigs are found here.

Jean D'Arcy Conservation Area & Powataunga Scenic Reserve hunting

Located 67 kilometres north-west of Whanganui, both the Jean D'Arcy Conservation Area and Powatunga Scenic Reserve are cloaked in podocarp/tawa forest. Deer, goats and pigs are found here.

Motutara Scenic Reserve hunting

Pigs and goats are found in the lowland forests of Motutara Scenic Reserve.

Nukuhau, Omahine & Okahutiria Conservation Area hunting

The steep topography of Nukuhau, Omahine and Okahutiria Conservation Areas are home to kiwi. Fallow deer, goats and pigs are hunted here.

Okahukura Scenic Reserve hunting

Goats and occasionally pigs can be found in Okahukura Scenic Reserve which is located about 10 kilometres north of Taumarunui.

Neilsons Conservation Area hunting

Pigs and goats are hunted at Neilsons Conservation Area. The area is located just east of Retaruke.

Moukuku Scenic Reserve hunting

Low numbers of goats and fallow deer are found in Moukuku Scenic Reserve. Located 28 kilometres north of Whanganui, the small reserve features tawa/scrub hardwood forest.

Murumuru Conservation Area hunting

Fallow deer, pigs and goats are found in the lowland forest of Murumuru Conservation Area.

Whanganui National Park West hunting

Goats, fallow deer, red deer and pigs are hunted in the Whanganui National Park (west of river) and adjoining scenic reserves and conservation areas.

Tokomaru East Block Conservation Area hunting

Low numbers of goats, pigs and fallow deer are found in Tokomaru East Block Conservation Area. Now restricted to foot traffic, the old Tokomaru East Road passes through the centre of the block.

Waitōtara Conservation Area and Rotokohu Scenic Reserve hunting

In Waitōtara Conservation Area and Rotokohu Scenic Reserve goats, pigs and fallow deer are present in low numbers.

Ruahine Forest Park - North West hunting

Red deer is the main species to hunt in the Ruahine ranges. Some sika deer are also present. Hunting areas include a combination of bush, slips and open tussock tops.

Ruahine Forest Park - South West

Red deer is the main species to hunt in the Western Ruahines although some goats can be found in the southern end of the ranges.

Ringaringa Scenic Reserve

A 31 hectare hunting area south west of Waiouru.

Rangi Scenic Reserve

A 338 hectare hunting area in the Whānganui area.

Moutoa Conservation Area

Moutoa reserve has been transferred to Rangitāne o Manawatū as part of Treaty Settlement redress. DOC does not manage this block and permits are not available.

Retaruke Scenic Reserve

A 583 hectare hunting area in the Taumarunui area.

Raketapauma Conservation Area

A 439 hectare hunting area in the Tūrangi area.

Titirangi Scenic Reserve (Manawatū)

A 307 hectare hunting area near Mangaweka in the Manawatū.

Puwekia Scenic Reserve

A 16 hectare hunting area west of Taihape in the central North Island.

Section 18 Scenic Reserve

A 288 hectare hunting area in the Whānganui district.

Kahu Scenic Reserve

A 44 hectare hunting area near Mangaweka in the Manawatū.
