About this hunting block
Red deer, fallow deer and pigs are present in the Mokaihaha Ecological Area.
The area contains approximately 2000 ha of Podocarp/tawa forest situated on the Mamaku plateau. The land is undulating, draining to the west.
Access
- Access is off the gravelled South Road which leads from Mamaku township.
- Four wheel drive access is down West Road.
- Walking track is off South Road, which then passes Lake Rotohokahoka and does both a loop back to South Road and a track out to the end of West Road.

Dogs
In reserves covered by an open hunting permit, a maximum of two dogs per hunter is permitted provided their handler has a valid hunting permit for that area and has full control of their dogs.
It is recommended that dogs used solely for deer or pig hunting are certified with bird aversion training.
Additional information
- Take care not to stray on to private land. Boundaries may not be fenced.
- Take a GPS and/or compass.
