Klondyke Spur Track
Located in Victoria Forest Park in the West Coast region
|
Introduction
A steep climb for experienced trampers that leads to a ridge overlooking the Victoria Range.2 km one way
Dog access
The Klondyke Spur route is a steep climb leading above the bushline onto the ridge, providing spectacular views of the Victoria Range. The climb to the bushline takes about 2.5 hr. It takes longer to walk along the ridge.
Experienced trampers may continue along the ridge and drop into the upper basin with alpine tarns to follow the Rahu River right branch back out.
This joins with the Klondyke Valley Track as a round trip. Do not attempt to take a low sidle as this will lead you to dangerous bluffs.
Drive from Reefton or Springs Junction on SH7 to the Rahu Saddle. The track is well signposted from the highway with good pull offs and carparking.
For a dog permit contact the Māwhera / Greymouth Office.
