Goldsborough (Waimea) - Kumara area

Located in the West Coast region

Base yourself at the campsite - discover gold mining relics on the numerous walks nearby or pan for gold.

To get to the Goldsborough area, follow SH6 north of Hokitika for 10 km then turn onto Stafford Loop Road. The Goldsborough camping and picnic area is about 6 km along the road. 

Alternatively,at Kumara Junction on SH6 (21 km north of Hokitika) turn off onto SH73. After 8 km, at Dillmanstown, turn onto Stafford Loop Road. The Goldsborough camping and picnic area is about 12 km along the road. 

Gold fossicking

Stay at Goldsborough conservation campsite and explore the gold mining area by fossicking for gold in a nearby creek. 

You can only fossick for gold in designated areas. Only hand-held tools are allowed. More on gold fossicking areas and rules.

Goldsborough was once a thriving mining settlement. You can explore this history by going on some of the walks in the area.
