In winter this area is blanketed in snow, extremely cold, and exposed.
Dog access
The Sisters Track begins from a turnoff on Prospect Hill Track – it’s a big hill climb up Prospect Hill Track to get to the turn off to The Sisters Track.
The Sisters Track will take you through herb fields and tussock. The track meanders slowly around a hill and involves multiple stream crossings. At the end of the track it connects up with the Kopuwai Track to Sisters Track at a junction.
Mountain biking
A good mountain biking option is up Prospect Hill Track onto the Sister Track and back the same way.
The Sisters Track can be started from two different points:
- Turnoff to The Sisters Track on the Prospect Hill Track, or
- From the junction with The Sisters Track from Kopuwai Track to The Sisters Track.
This track is an easement through private land. Please respect this by staying on the track.
No hunting allowed on this track as it's on private land.
The track starts above 1000 m altitude and reaches just above 1400 m altitude.
Weather and fog: Temperatures at this altitude can change suddenly even in mid-summer. Take warm and windproof clothing. Fog can roll in quickly – take a map and GPS to help with navigation during the fog.
Avalanches: Be avalanche aware as this area has ‘simple’ avalanche terrain.
