Roaring Billy Falls Walk

Located in Mount Aspiring National Park in the Otago region

An easy bush walk to a view of Roaring Billy Falls on the other side of the Haast River.

This gentle walk through a beautiful podocarp and silver beech forest passes some fine examples of miro, mataī and silver tawhai/beech trees. The forest is lush with tree ferns, a special feature of the walk.

This walk is fully accessible for wheelchair and buggy users to the viewpoint at the top of the riverbank, where there are great views of the Roaring Billy Waterfall.

The broad gravel bed of the Haast River contrasts with the jumble of huge boulders which the falls cascade down. Take care if exploring the riverbed beyond the end of the track.

The car park for Roaring Billy Falls is located on the Haast Highway (SH6), 30 km south of Haast township.

The nearest toilet facilities are located at the Pleasant Flat Campsite, 20 km south along SH6 or at Haast Junction, 30 km north along SH6.
