Located in Cobb Valley and Kahurangi National Park in the Nelson/Tasman region

Cobb Hostel is located at the bottom end of the Cobb Reservoir. Rental is for the whole building.

Features

It was previously a hostel for Cobb Dam workers. It is a great base to explore the local area from.

Rental is for the whole building, so you will not have to share it with other users.

Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2025.

All bookings are first-come first-served. We do not have waiting lists for bookings for future seasons or facilities that are already booked-out.

A $10 service fee applies to phone and in-person booking. This is a limited service – book online first. An in-person booking is dependent on there being space available.

38 km from Upper Tākaka into Cobb Valley, Kahurangi National Park. The road is unsealed, narrow and winding.

Follow Cobb Dam Road all the way to the Cobb Reservoir. Just before you arrive at the reservoir the Cobb Hostel is the first house on your right. It is signposted.

  • Water in the house is untreated and is from a nearby small stream.
  • Wasps and bumble bees can be an issue especially from February to May.
  • In winter check the expected weather forecast. Snow can close the Cobb road at the ridge for days at a time. 

There are excellent tramping, fishing, hunting and botanising opportunities in the area.
