Heaphy Campsite

Located in Kahurangi National Park in the Nelson/Tasman region

This is a walk-in campsite on the Heaphy Track.

This is one of nine Great Walk campsites on the Heaphy Track.

It overlooks the Heaphy River mouth, which is an exciting place. The river surges out through a narrow gap into the sea – incoming waves halt the flow and the churning of salt and fresh waters is spectacular.

Limestone cliffs and lush tropical forest with nikau palms surround the area.

Facilities and services

  • Number of campers – 40
  • Number of tent sites – 20

All campsites on the Heaphy Track have water from a tap and toilets that are supplied with toilet paper.

Campers are not allowed to use hut facilities.

Hut rangers move between nearby huts in the summer. As well as checking campsite bookings, they are able to provide campers with information about the track and weather.
