A great opportunity to walk through mature lowland podocarp forest with excellent examples of kahikatea, matai, miro and tōtara.600 m loop
Dog access
The loop track provides visitors with a close view of this attractive stand of native forest.
At Otane, turn off SH2 onto Elsthorpe Road. Follow this for 21 km to Elsthorpe. Turn left here into Kairakau Road. Note the Elsthorpe Road part of the scenic reserve has no walking tracks through it.
Native birds are plentiful including kererū, tūī and fantails.
