Mueller Hut

Located in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park in the Canterbury region

This is an alpine serviced 28-bunk hut in the Aoraki/Mount Cook area.

Facilities and services

  • Cooking - gas cookers
  • Lighting - solar
  • Platform bunks with mattresses in separate bunkrooms

Note, toilet can be inaccessible in winter.

There is a daily radio check-in and weather update to all the alpine huts in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park. This is at 4:45 pm. There are instructions in the hut that explain how the radio update is done.

Fees

  • Adults (18+ years): $45 per night ($35 for New Zealand Alpine Club members)
  • Youth (5–17 years): $22.50 per night
  • Child/Infant (0–4 years): free
Mid November - 30 April

Pay when you make a booking. Backcountry Hut Passes and Hut Tickets cannot be used at this hut.

1 May - mid November

Pay at the Aoraki/Mount Cook Visitor Centre on the day you start.

Backcountry Hut Passes and Backcountry Hut Tickets cannot be used at this hut.

Bookings

Bookings are open for stays up to 30 April 2025.

All bookings are first-come first-served. We do not have waiting lists for bookings for future seasons or facilities that are already booked-out.

A $10 service fee applies to phone and in-person booking. This is a limited service – book online first. An in-person booking is dependent on there being space available.

Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival.

1 May - mid November

Bookings are not required – first come, first served but you must still register your intentions with the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park Visitor Centre before you walk.
