DOC coordinates the work to develop and review implementation plans.
The approach for developing implementation plans is collaborative, adaptive and responsive ensuring we take the best possible actions to address the biodiversity crisis between now and 2050.
The first implementation plan was launched in April 2022. It includes 204 actions, some planned and some in progress, from central and local government that contribute to the strategy’s objectives for 2025.

There are many other actions underway to address the biodiversity crisis that are not in the implementation plan. Actions being delivered by Treaty partners, whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori organisations, communities, NGOs, industry and Government. All of which are vital for achieving the ambitious vision of Te Mana o te Taiao – Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy 2020.
We’re working with other agencies to develop the next implementation plan for ANZBS. This will replace the ANZBS Implementation Plan 2022.
