Located in Arthur's Pass National Park in the West Coast and Canterbury regions

This is a standard 10-bunk hut in the Hokitika area.

There is no fireplace at Carroll Hut. Make sure to carry appropriate warm clothing and sleeping equipment. You will also need your own cooker and utensils.

Fees

  • Adult (18+ years): $15 per night
  • Youth (5–17 years): $7.50 per night
  • Child/Infant (0–4 years): free

Bookings

Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2027.

  • If no availability shows online for your dates, the hut is fully booked.
  • No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking.
  • Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
  • Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.

Thieves targeting cars at Arthur's Pass

There have been reports of cars being broken into and disabled at track ends.

  • Don't leave valuables in your vehicle.
  • Report any suspicious activity to police on 111 (if it is happening right now) or 105 (if it has already happened).
