Located in Mount Aspiring National Park in the Otago region

This is an serviced 16-bunk hut in the Wanaka/Makarora area.

Facilities and services

Huts have basic facilities. You'll need to take:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Stove and fuel
  • Pots/pans and utensils
  • Toilet paper
  • Rubbish bag (to pack out all rubbish, including food scraps)
  • Newspaper/fire starter and matches/lighter for the wood burner
  • Torch

Fees

1 May - 30 September

  • Adult (18+ years): $25 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $12.50 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

1 October - 30 April

Weekdays:

  • Adult (18+ years): $28 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $14 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

Weekends:

  • Adult (18+ years): $32 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $16 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

1 December - 29 February

Weekdays:

  • Adult (18+ years): $29 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $14.50 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

Weekends:

  • Adult (18+ years): $34 per night
  • Youth (5–17 years): $17 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

Camping

  • Adult (18+ years): $10 per night
  • Child (5–17 years): $5 per night
  • Infant (0 - 4 years): free

The DOC Campsite Pass can be used at this campsite. 

Bookings

Bookings are open for stays up from 22 October 2026 to 30 April 2027.  

  • If no availability shows online for your dates, the hut is fully booked.
  • No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking.
  • Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
  • Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.

Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival. 

1 May – 21 October

Bookings are not required - first come, first served. Fees still apply.

No visitor centre in Makarora

Contact the Awarua/Haast or Tititea/Mount Aspiring National Park visitor centres instead. 

Full huts during peak season

This hut, along with other huts in the region, is popular with trampers from December until after Easter. We recommended you carry a tent or roll mat when tramping during this period.
