Located in Motuora Island in the Auckland region

The small basic cottage on pest-free Motuora Island is 50 metres from the beach. Enjoy good swimming or snorkelling and plenty of walking tracks.

Fees

The fees are per night for up to 4 people.  

  • Weekday (Sunday to Thursday): $98 per night  
  • Weekend (Friday and Saturday): $116 per night 
  • Peak (1 December – 8 February): $116 per night 

Bookings

Bookings for the 2026/27 season open at 12 noon on Tuesday 12 May 2026.  

  • If no availability shows online for your dates, the lodge is fully booked.
  • No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking.
  • Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
  • Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.

The bach is located in the campground at Home Bay, on the western side of the island.

No smoking. Smoking is only permitted on the beach and in the campsite. 

Bach access

The key to the bach is located in a lock box by the door of the ranger's office. The access code to the lock box will be sent to you in your booking confirmation email. Return the key at the end of your stay. 

Biosecurity requirements

All visitors staying on the island must complete and bring the biosecurity checklist.

  • An island sanctuary for native flora and fauna.
  • Nearby Māori historic site and early European settlement.
  • Watch for kiwi, whitehead, grey faced petrel and NZ dotterel.
  • Walking, all water sports and bird watching.

A visit to Motuora overnight will give you the chance to hear, and possibly spot, a North Island brown kiwi.

Swim in the beautiful beach, which is also safe for landing small craft.
