The management plan took effect 1 August 2021
On 15 June 2021, the Board made a decision to ‘determine’ the final version of the Management Plan for Taupō Waters. The Management Plan took effect from 1 August 2021.
Following the public notification of the Draft Management Plan in September 2020, the Board spent considerable time deliberating on submissions received and evidence provided through hearings that were conducted in December 2020. As a result of deliberation, the Board has made a number of amendments to the Draft Management Plan.
What's in the management plan
The Management Plan for Taupō Waters provides for the continuation of entry to, and use of, Taupō Waters free of charge for:
- non-exclusive and non-commercial recreational use, and
- enjoyment and non-commercial research purposes.
The Management Plan also sets out a process for the Board to consider and decide applications for:
- new Crown structures for public good purposes;
- any increase to the area occupied by existing Crown structures;
- non-commercial research; and
- recreational use activities that may exclude the general public’s use of parts of Taupō Waters.
