General policy is the highest level of statutory policy for conservation management on all public conservation lands and waters, including national parks.

Partial reviews of the two general policies

The partial reviews are an opportunity to collaborate with Māori to shape Treaty partnership in conservation. The process also involves conservation stakeholders and the wider public.

There are two general policies

General Policy for National Parks provides guidance for managing national parks. It replaces General Policy for National Parks 1983.

Conservation General Policy provides guidance for managing natural and historic resources under conservation legislation. This policy does not cover national parks.
