The Bay of Plenty Conservation Management Strategy covers the Bay of Plenty conservancy area.
This extends from Ohiwa Harbour in the east to near Waihi Beach in the north. The coastal area of the conservancy includes islands such as Tuhua (Mayor Island), Whakaari (White Island) and Moutohora (Whale Island). The northern boundary is the Karangahake Gorge and includes the Kaimai range and Mamaku plateau. The boundary then runs south to join the Napier-Taupo highway and includes Whirinaki Forest Park.
The Bay of Plenty Conservation Board has a key role in ensuring the Strategy is being implemented. The board runs a Strategy monitoring programme whereby conservation topics are selected for audit in relation to the Strategy at each board meeting.
