Goldie Bush Walkway
Alert/Important notice
Upgrade works have begun on the Goldie Bush Walkway - 22 December 2009.
The planned works include the upgrade of the Goldie Bush track from Constable Road end to the Mokoroa Stream crossing, including the installation of a new bridge across the Mokoroa Stream. Works also include the installation of a new carpark and small toilet facility at the road end.
Upgrade works will continue after the Christmas break on the Constable Road end of the Goldie Bush Walkway. Works will commence on 11 January 2010. From this date until the completion of works (expected to be at the beginning of March), this section of the walkway will be closed. The closure is to ensure visitor safety, and to minimise the damage to fragile earthworks during the construction period.
Visitors will still be able to access the other sections of the walkway from the Horsman Road end during this period. Signs and barriers will be in place on site during the closures. For further information contact the Auckland Area Office on +64 9 445 9274, or to report safety concerns please call the DOC Hotline (0800 DOC HOT/0800 362 468).
Mokoroa Stream Track is a marked route only, and extreme care is needed. Numerous stream crossings. Do not attempt after heavy rain. This route is suitable for experienced trampers only.

To walk to Mokoroa Falls from Horseman Rd follow the Goldie Bush Walkway for 5 minutes, then turn right onto the Mokoroa Falls Track.
Plan and prepare
- Track becomes slippery after periods of rain
- Dogs are not permitted on the tracks because of the threat they pose to stock and wildlife. Exceptions include certified guide dogs and permitted hunting dogs.
What to expect on a walking track:
- Easy to moderate walking from a few minutes to a day
- Track is mostly well formed, some sections may be steep, rough or muddy
- Suitable for people with low to moderate fitness and abilities
- Clearly sign posted. Stream and river crossings are bridged
- Walking shoes or light tramping/hiking boots required
