The area surrounding Greymouth offers walks that provide great views of the sea, examples of native forests, waterfalls and coal and gold mining history.Location: Greymouth is located on the West Coast, South Island.
The Greymouth Mawheranui area covers the central West Coast. Hunting for red deer, fallow deer, chamois, goats, feral pigs and game birds is popular throughout much of the area. Location: State highways from Arthurs Pass, Lewis Pass and the Buller Gorge traverse much of the area and there are numerous side roads that provide access up side valleys and to areas of public conservation land.
Lake Brunner is a great area to get out and explore with recreational acitivites such as boating, walking, and fishing.Location: Lake Brunner is located 37km from Greymouth.
Nelson Creek is an excellent spot to go walking, camping and exploring. With historic water races, tunnels, recreational gold fossicking and a number of short walks, there is plenty to do. Location: 25 km from Greymouth.
The Southern Paparoa Range contains gold mining history, beautiful native forests and panoramic views from the Main Divide to the Tasman Sea.Location: The Paparoa Range is located north of Greymouth and are accessible via a range of tracks, the most popular being the Croesus and Moonlight Tracks. The Springs Junction-Lewis Pass area provides visitors with a number of recreational opportunities.Location: Springs Junction is located 43km east of Reefton. The Lewis Pass is between Springs Junction and the Boyle Village.
Victoria Forest Park is the largest park of its type in the country. There is access to the park via a network of tracks, many dating from the mining days with relics amid regenerated forest.Location: Access is via the State Highways that surround and dissect the Park as well as a number of secondary roads.
