The Raukumara Forest Park is one of the least developed or visited tracts of bush in the North Island. Recreation opportunities include climbing Mount Hikurangi, rafting the Motu River and the mountain biking Otipi Road.Location: The park lies between the Bay of Plenty and East Cape and is the northern part of a continuous mountain chain running through the North Island. It can be accessed from the Opotiki, Ruatoria and Matawai townships.
The historic Tauranga Bridge, spanning the Waioeka River, is the only surviving harp suspension bridge left in New Zealand.Location: The Tauranga Bridge is located 27 kilometres from Opotiki off State Highway 2 in the Waioeka Gorge. The bridge is a five minute walk from the carpark.
