No safe drinking water. Aerial 1080 application in the Poulter Valley

Reports of a dead mouse in the Casey Hut water tank so the water may not be safe to drink.

17 February 2015: Aerial 1080 application in the Poulter Valley

  • Tracks in the consented area include: Poulter Track as far as Linwood Stream above Lake Minchin and Andrews Stream Track from the shelter to Casey Hut in Arthur’s Pass National Park.  Signs are posted at the start of all relevant tracks. Following the aerial application staff have checked and cleared tracks of all 1080 pellets. There is also a 100m exclusion zone around all relevant huts.
  • This is to control rats to protect the critically endangered orange-fronted parakeet / kākāriki found only in three Canterbury beech-forests valleys.
