Mid Goulter Hut

Located in Mount Richmond Forest Park in the Marlborough region

This is a standard 8-bunk hut in the South Marlborough area.

Mid Goulter Hut is located at the end of the river flats of the upper Goulter River. It was built in 1969 and extended in 1997.

Fees

  • Adult (18+ years): $10 per night
  • Youth (5–17 years): $5 per night
  • Child/Infant (0–4 years): free

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12 month period.

Nearest road to Mid Goulter Hut

4WD road past the end of Staircase Road: 3 hr 30 min

Lake Chalice Hut to Mid Goulter Hut

Lake Chalice Hut: 5 hr (9 km)

From Lake Chalice Hut the track on the western end of Lake Chalice descends, passing the resurgence of the Goulter River at a group of springs. Once into the valley the track follows the true left of the river to Mid Goulter Hut

Lower Goulter Hut to Mid Goulter Hut

Lower Goulter Hut: 3 hr (6.8 km)

This stretch between Lower and Mid Goulter Hut is one of the few areas in the park with extensive open river flats. If the river is low it is possible, by crossing and recrossing it, to keep entirely to the open grassy banks. If the river is high take the track which follows the river up the true left.

Old Man Hut to Mid Goulter Hut

Old Man Hut: 4 hr (10 km)

From Old Man Hut descend steeply to a stream, following it to the Goulter River. Across the river travel along the true left to Mid Goulter Hut.
