Description
The 1.6 km Kauri Block Walk is in regenerating bush with planted kauri. A side track leads to an old pa site with spectacular views over Coromandel Town and coast.
The Taumatawahine Walk is predominately a ponga bush walk within the town.
Both tracks require attention to ensure visitors can use the tracks in a safe manner.
Volunteers will assist with clearing side drains and culverts, maintaining steps, track resurfacing,cleaning and replacing track signage, removing litter and vegetation trimming.
Fitness/skills
Medium to high fitness is required.
Pickup/drop off location
Volunteers can either use their own transport to the walks or advise the need for transport. A mini van will leave the Hauraki Area office, corner Pahau and Kirkwood Streets, Thames each day at 8:00 am, and return to the same location at approximately 5:00 pm.
Contribution towards food and transport (per person)
Volunteers must provide their own food and drinks for lunch (tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided for morning and afternoon tea). Food is not available for purchase on site and there are no shops nearby.
