The New Zealand Conservation Authority decided today to kick off the formal process that could lead to a national park in Northland.
The NZCA signed the Merida Statement at its December 2009 meeting in support for the climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts with biodiversity conservation and wilderness protection.
“Giving the public a say in how the public conservation estate is managed is at the heart of the current round of Conservation Management Strategies to be done throughout parts of the country,” NZCA Chair Kerry Marshall said today.
The New Zealand Conservation Authority has declined to approve an amendment to the Mount Aspiring National Park Management Plan, allowing for the construction of a new road and tunnel within Mt Aspiring National Park.
Land at Awaroa previously owned by the Hadfield family is a step closer to being added to Abel Tasman National Park with the New Zealand Conservation Authority giving its approval to the move.
