Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi Growing Minds programme

The Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi have recently launched their Growing Minds programme, aimed at bringing increasing numbers of school children to Tiritiri Matangi Island for the day.

Growing Minds calls on the Auckland Business community to give children, particularly those from lower decile schools (deciles 1-6), the opportunity to experience a day out on Tiritiri Matangi and see how people can make a difference – not only to conservation but also within their own communities.

Running Events, an Auckland based event management company, has provided generous sponsorship for Growing Minds’ first year. Its 2013 events, the Westfield Albany Lakes Summer Series and Skechers Coatesville Classic, will be 100% non-profit and staff will work for six months for free to guarantee at least $25,000 for Growing Minds.

This will mean a day out on Tiritiri Matangi (including their ferry ticket, lunch and a souvenir drink bottle!) for at least 1,000 kids during the first year of the Growing Minds programme. Ferry company 360 Discovery is also partnering the programme, funding the accompanying teachers and adults.

For many children from low decile schools, this will not only be their first chance to visit a conservation island and see how a community can make a difference, but will also be their first time on a boat.

How can schools get involved?

If you are considering bringing your school on a field trip to Tiritiri Matangi, check the Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi website to see whether your school is eligible for the Growing Minds programme.

How can I support the Growing Minds programme?

Not part of a school? If you would like to support the Growing Minds programme, why not put your name down for one of Running Event’s runs or walks:

All profits from both events will go towards the Growing Minds programme.
