Wanganui Conservation Management Strategy review
Thank you to those who submitted a feedback form following our initial publicity. Over 90 forms have been received to date and are currently being analysed.
Targeted meetings with representatives from key groups and agencies in the Conservancy are planned over the coming months to gather more information.
This feedback will be taken into consideration when developing the new draft Wanganui CMS over the latter part of 2008 and beginning of 2009. Release of the draft for public comment is expected to occur about September 2009.
For any enquiries related to the Wanganui CMS please email wanganui.cms@doc.govt.nz
Why a review?
Wanganui Conservancy’s current Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) is nearing the end of its 10 year time span and is due to expire in April 2009.
What is a CMS?
A CMS is a planning document which explains how DOC will carry out the purposes and aims of the legislation it administers throughout Wanganui Conservancy.
It provides a ten year statement of the values, issues, objectives and anticipated outcomes for conservation management in the conservancy. This includes management of public conservation lands and waters, conservation advocacy on land not managed by DOC and working with communities and tangata whenua.
