Your heritage, your say - Tōu Taonga, Tōu Whakaaro
The places, historic sites, plants and animals the Department of Conservation (DOC) looks after belong to you and DOC manages them on your behalf. Conservation Management Strategies (CMS) are plans for how this happens.
The draft Otago strategy was publicly notified for submissions on Wednesday 26 June 2013. Copies of the draft strategy were posted to Conservation Board members, Ngai Tahu, regional and district councils, government departments, key conservation, recreation and tourism organisations, and other key interest groups.
Submissions have now closed.
Submissions on the draft Otago Conservation Management Strategy closed on 13 September with 366 submissions received.
Hearings were held during October and November 2013.
Submissions have been summarised and recommendations will be made regarding each submission point raised and changes made to the draft CMS. If the Otago Conservation Board supports these changes the CMS will then be forwarded to the New Zealand Conservation Authority for approval.
