Seaweek

7 - 14 March 2010
Fish for the future

Department of Conservation is proud to sponsor Seaweek - an annual celebration of New Zealand's precious marine environment.

Around the country DOC and other organisations run events and activities to help people discover what’s special about our ocean and how they can make a difference. From marine-themed trips to beach clean-ups and coastal plantings, there are plenty of opportunities for you to take part.

New Zealand has 33 marine reserves with stunning natural features and unique marine life. There are lots of ways for you to enjoy marine reserves, such as diving, snorkeling, taking photos, swimming, kayaking, and exploring rock pools.

DOC gets great support from volunteers and community groups all over New Zealand to help monitor marine species, look after coastal land areas, safeguard marine protected areas and much more! We thank the people who work with us to make an even bigger difference to marine conservation.

Visit our Seaweek resources & links page to be inspired, take action and enjoy New Zealand’s marine environment.
