Monitoring results

What sort of monitoring will be done

  • Immediately after the release, we’ll be monitoring the effectiveness of
    the sound anchoring.
  • Each bird is individually banded with rings on their legs as a unique
    identifier.
  • In spring we’ll monitor the breeding season to see how many nests
there are, numbers of chicks produced, that sort of thing - this helps
gauge the success of the release compared to other releases that have
    occurred around the country.
  • Robin’s are territorial and the birds territories will be mapped and
collated so we get an overall picture of which bird has become
    established where.

You can help!

If you live in the area, you can help by completing a robin report card (PDF, 293K) every time you see a robin. Full instructions for reading leg bands are given in the document.
