Mark Cawardine's New Zealand wildlife tour
Date: 28 February 2012
Mark Cawardine calls New Zealand a "wildlife hotspot" and says it's one of the best places in the world to see great wildlife.
Recently the award-winning zoologist, photographer, television presenter, author and conservationist came on a whirlwind tour, searching for our equivalent to Africa's 'big five', the New Zealand 'small five' endangered species: hector’s dolphin; kea, kiwi, tuatara, yellow-eyed penguin.
In this video he meets the yellow-eyed penguin near Dunedin, the tuatara in Invercargill, the albatross, robin, saddleback and kiwi on Stewart Island, and reminisces about his good friend Sirocco the kākāpō.
